San Francisco artist, Marcia Stuermer, originally from northern Ohio, attended Cooper School of Art, the Cleveland Institute of Art and received her BFA in Sculpture/Drawing from the Kansas City Art Institute. After her college years, she decided to flee the Midwest for the fair city of San Francisco that she’d visited so many times in her youth during adventurous family summer road trips to California.

Stuermer Studios' showroom/gallery is located in the South of Market area of San Francisco.

Stuermer’s unique artwork transforms her primary medium of translucent resin into evocative investigations of emotion, thought and memory in a type of conceptual freeze-framing. Whether connected aesthetically and/or conceptually, she is driven by her fascination with scientific inquiry related to the natural, chemical and biological worlds, the underpinnings of which she feels have a certain relevance to our contemporary milieu. The elements of surprise, wonder and unforeseen beauty are central to Stuermer’s artwork in combination with her desire to convert the commonplace to the sublime. She often exposes microscopic, unnoticed and/or overlooked elements via intricate ink drawings to unveil unimagined beauty and meanings using the duality of nature + technology to pique the viewers’ discovery of new realities.

Stuermer’s scientific inquiry of the underlying energy and beauty in nature directs her unique alchemy. She is renowned for her transformations of resin in combination with other materials into thought provoking and stimulating visual dialogues. Whether in her conceptual artwork, her imaginative architectural applications, or her dynamic site-specific art installations, Stuermer captures an ethereal sense of delicately frozen animation that is beautifully integrated into compelling statements.
